About Veneers
Veneers are used to improve the appearance of the teeth, either after injury, as a quick, effective solution when teeth are misshapen or crooked, or occasionally to cover gaps in teeth if orthodontic treatment isn’t suitable for you.
Treatment Benefits
Benefits Of Veneers
Veneers are an extremely popular treatment for improving the appearance of your teeth.
Benefits include:
Improved smile
Veneers are a comparatively easy way to improve your smile by covering chipped, cracked or discoloured teeth. As mentioned, when they’re done well, they can look natural and blend in with your other teeth, making it look as though you’ve simply had a smile makeover.
Increased confidence
Damaged teeth can affect our self-esteem, and veneers are one way to address that issue and make you feel more confident about your appearance and your smile.
Natural Look & Feel
One of the reasons people like veneers as an option for improving the appearance of their teeth, is that they can look and feel natural when they’re done well. We take great care at Bethcar to make sure that the veneers we apply improve the appearance of your teeth without looking false.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are veneers?
Veneers are a covering on individual teeth. They are custom made from thin porcelain, and are then bonded to the tooth surface using a strong and dedicated dental glue. Depending on how you care for your teeth, veneers can last for up to 30 years.
What are veneers for?
Veneers are a purely aesthetic treatment, and they tend to be used if teeth are damaged (darkened or chipped), stained, misshapen or crooked. In some cases, orthodontic treatment isn’t suitable to shrink oversized gaps between teeth, so veneers might be used to cover them. They can be applied to a single tooth or multiple teeth.
What's involved with getting veneers?
While getting veneers is an aesthetic procedure it is a permanent choice as it involves altering the shape of your natural teeth. It is therefore important that you consider the choice carefully. We will discuss the process with you and we will support you in making the healthiest decision for you and your teeth.
If you choose to get veneers, there will be three key appointments.
Step 1.
We begin with a consultation, where we will take x-rays and impressions of the tooth or teeth. From these we will create a mockup to give you an idea of how the veneers will look.
Step 2.
At your second appointment we will remove some of the enamel from each tooth that is intended for a veneer. This creates enough space for the veneer to be attached without affecting your bite. We then take a mould of the tooth/teeth using a dental putty. This will be used to create your bespoke veneer(s). Before you leave, we apply temporary veneers until your next appointment when the permanent one(s) can be fitted.
Step 3.
At your third appointment we will fix the permanent veneers in place using dental glue/cement. Once they are fitted, you should be able to resume normal eating and drinking within a matter of hours. You may experience some tooth sensitivity for a few days, but we will advise you on aftercare.
What are the drawbacks of veneers?
They are not indestructible
Veneers are made of porcelain, which is not an indestructible material. With excessive pressure or impact, they can shatter and will need replacing. It’s important you maintain good oral hygiene practices, chew wisely, take precautions with impact sports, and maintain a regular dental care plan.
They don’t last forever
Veneers can last between 10 and 30 years if you do not experience damage through trauma and if you look after them. However, it’s important that you are mindful they will need replacing at some point.
Not reversible
While veneers don’t last forever, they are an irreversible solution. The reason for this is the removal of enamel and reshaping of your natural tooth in order to accommodate the veneer itself. It’s important to remember that they will need to be replaced at some point, and to plan for that eventuality.
Are veneers right for me?
Veneers may be the right solution for you if you have small gaps between your teeth, mild overcrowding, misshapen teeth or small amounts of damage that don’t warrant treatment like a bridge or crown. They are a comparatively fast solution for permanently improving the appearance of your teeth. If you would like to talk about veneers and whether they are right for you, we will be happy to discuss the options with you.
