Benefits Of a Dental Hygiene Plan
The main benefits of adopting a regular dental hygiene plan is to maintain good long-term oral health and prevent periodontal disease.
Benefits include:
Help prevent tooth loss
By maintaining a regular dental hygiene plan and limiting the chances of gum disease going undetected and untreated, we can also help to prevent tooth loss caused by gum disease and tooth decay. In the long-term, this limits the likelihood of needing further dental interventions such as fillings, dental bridges or dentures related to oral health issues.
Treat and prevent gum disease
The primary purpose of a dental hygiene plan is to help keep teeth and gums healthy for the long-term. By maintaining regular checks, we can address any issues early on as well as help to prevent gum disease with regular scaling and polishing treatments. Even the most attentive teeth cleaners will develop some low grade plaque or staining due to the regular wear and tear of daily life. Regular dental appointments will help to remove any build up and prevent gum disease or tooth decay.
Remove unwanted stains
In addition to maintaining the health of our teeth, regular dental appointments help to maintain the appearance of your teeth. Hygienist appointments as part of your dental plan will include scaling and polishing treatments to remove staining from the hard to reach areas of the teeth as well as those caused by daily food and drink intake.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a dental hygiene plan?
A dental hygiene plan is a largely preventative process, which includes regular appointments each year to examine your teeth, administer any regular maintenance, and address any issues that might be occurring before they become serious. The frequency of your dental visits within your hygiene plan will depend on a number of factors ranging from your age to your overall health and wellbeing, as well as your level of risk for dental concerns. We will discuss a recommended plan with you when you first join Bethcar Dental, and we will continue to reassess your needs at each appointment.
What is a dental hygiene plan for?
Prevention is better than cure, but in the case of any dental issues, finding and addressing them as early as possible will help to maintain long-term oral health and prevent tooth loss wherever possible. The purpose of a dental hygiene plan is to look after your teeth, maintaining their appearance, their health and as a result impacting your overall health and wellbeing.
What's involved in a dental hygiene plan?
A dental hygiene plan usually begins with an examination of the teeth and gums to check for any areas of concern or potential concern. We will also talk to you about any experiences you’re having when brushing your teeth in case you have any questions. Your hygienist will then administer a treatment to remove any minor plaque or tartar build up from the teeth, cleaning the spaces between teeth and gums, as well as polishing teeth to ensure optimum appearance and health.
Is a dental hygiene plan right for me?
A dental hygiene plan is recommended for everyone, no matter your age, health or dental health. The earlier you can begin a regular dental hygiene plan, the better it is for your long-term oral health, helping to address any issues as early as possible or even prevent them from occurring in the first place. That said, it is also never too late to start – if you have not been on a dental hygiene programme before, but would like to start now, we will welcome you to the practice at any age or stage of dental wellbeing.
