About Dental Care For Children
An early introduction to a dental care plan gives children the tools for long-term dental health, which also has an impact on our wider wellbeing.
Our dental care plans for children focus on education around oral hygiene, getting them accustomed to coming to the dentist, and making it a normal and fun part of their routine.
An early introduction to dentistry helps to limit any anxiety they may have about taking care of their teeth, helping to create positive habits and meaning we can address any issues early on.
Treatment Benefits
Benefits Of Children’s Dental Care
Prevention is always better than cure, and by starting on a dental programme in childhood, children have a head start for long-term oral health, rather than trying to fix problems down the line. Regular check-ups help them to understand how to take care of their teeth using preventative measures. Overcrowding of the teeth and other issues can also be detected early to minimise interventions and the cost of treatment down the line.
Developing healthy dental hygiene habits
On a dental hygiene plan, children develop healthy habits such as how to brush teeth effectively, understanding why we need to clean our teeth and how to floss. This sets children up for good oral health over the course of their lifetime. It also minimises the chances of gum disease and tooth loss as they grow up, and in the long-term it also minimises the cost of dental treatment as well.
Mitigate fear or anxiety of going to the dentist
For lots of people, going to the dentist is an anxiety-making experience and much of that has to do with a lack of familiarity or having only gone to the dentist when a problem has occurred. By introducing children to dental care from a young age and by focusing on preventative healthcare, children develop positive associations with going to the dentist and minimise anxiety.
Supporting general wellbeing
Our dental health is linked to all aspects of our wellbeing, from our nutritional intake to our cardiac health. Looking after our teeth from an early age not only supports long-term dental health, but overall wellness too.
Identify risk factors early on
Identifying children’s risk factors such as overcrowded or crooked teeth early on, means that more preventative and less invasive measures can be taken to support the health and appearance of children’s teeth as they grow. This means that not only can we take better care of a child’s dental wellbeing, but we can also address any concerns before they become problematic and in the most cost-effective way.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is dental care for children?
At Bethcar, our dental care services for children hinge on regular programmes that aim to take care of the long-term health of your child’s teeth and gums. By placing them on a dental plan from a young age we can help them learn about oral health, how to look after their teeth and we can catch any issues early on.
Our dental care for children also extends into orthodontics as they grow – including braces or any other treatment they may need down the line.
What's involved in dental care for children?
Our dental care plans for children focus on learning about effective brushing and oral hygiene. After an initial assessment, we create a programme that’s tailored to the individual child’s risk factors. If you are a parent on a plan with our practice, then we offer your child one free check up a year, however for most children we advise putting them on a plan of their own as early as possible.
Is a dental care plan right for my child?
A dental care plan is recommended for all children from the age of around six months old, or as soon as their first milk tooth comes through. It’s recommended that you start getting them used to brushing their teeth and gums twice daily from around the same time – for some children this is as early as four months old.
