About Airflow Tooth Polishing
Tooth polishing is one of the most effective treatments after daily oral hygiene for maintaining a megawatt smile. However, some polishing treatments can be hard on teeth.
Knowing the importance of keeping your teeth looking their best whilst also maintaining their health, we use Airflow tooth polishing, a minimally invasive treatment administered by our expert hygienists.
Treatment Benefits
Benefits Of Airflow
Airflow tooth polishing is ideal for removing stains from teeth caused by food, drink, genetics and lifestyle. It is a gentle treatment, making it ideal for anyone with sensitive teeth or those who are nervous about dental treatments. Due to its sensitive approach, Airflow is also designed to be used as frequently as required without causing damage to teeth.
Effective Polishing & Stain Removal
Airflow tooth polishing is known to be more effective at cleaning teeth than more traditional methods. The water jets not only clean the surfaces of the teeth and remove plaque build up, but also reach into the periodontal pockets (the spaces around the teeth), to remove bacteria and help prevent gum disease.
Fast Treatment Time
Airflow tooth polishing removes plaque build-up more quickly and easily than other forms of scaling and polishing methods – it is a uniquely fast treatment. Depending on your plaque and stain build up, it takes on average between 20 to 30 minutes for the entire appointment, which is up to three times faster than traditional cleaning procedures.
Gentle On Sensitive Teeth & Gums
The process of using water, sodium bicarbonate and air pressure to clean teeth makes Airflow tooth polishing a much gentler process than traditional methods. As a result, it is ideal for sensitive teeth and gums.
Non-Invasive Polishing Treatment
When we talk about Airflow tooth polishing being non-invasive, it’s because unlike traditional treatments there are no scraping tools used to remove hardened plaque. There is no direct contact between the instruments and your teeth, which some clients find uncomfortable.
Suitable For Frequent Application
As Airflow tooth polishing is gentle on teeth and gums it can be administered as frequently as required to maintain the health and appearance of teeth. For most clients, twice a year or once every six months is enough. Some people may only require it once a year, and others may benefit from up to six treatments annually, depending on the overall condition of your teeth, general health and family history of gum disease.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Airflow tooth polishing for?
Airflow tooth polishing is for anyone looking to keep their teeth looking and feeling their best. Perfect for stain removal, particularly from tea, coffee and alcohol, genetic susceptibility or staining caused by medications, it’s a contemporary update on a traditional polishing treatment, designed to be more gentle whilst still delivering excellent results.
What's involved in Airflow tooth polishing?
Airflow tooth polishing uses a gentle jet stream of water and air to clean teeth and gums. As a result, it is more comfortable than traditional tools and is safe for the surface of the tooth. This is followed by the use of a non-toxic sodium bicarbonate powder to polish the teeth, which is lighter than traditional pastes, and water to complete the treatment. The efficacy of Airflow tooth polishing means that it is a fairly fast treatment lasting approximately 30 minutes.
Is Airflow tooth polishing right for me?
Airflow is suitable for just about all of our clients, and we highly recommend it at least once a year. We will discuss the use of polishing treatments as part of your dental hygiene plan when you join Bethcar Dental, and we will review your requirements at each check-up.
Suitable for adults and children
The comfortable and minimally invasive nature of Airflow tooth polishing makes it suitable for children as well as adults.
Anyone concerned about stained teeth
We all get staining on our teeth over the course of the year, whether it’s in the hard to reach places behind our teeth or as a result of daily food and drink intake. This treatment is recommended for everyone, especially those predisposed to staining.
Anyone looking to maintain optimum oral health
Tooth polishing is recommended at least once a year as part of a healthy oral hygiene programme, helping to minimise the buildup of plaque and help prevent gum disease.
Nervous dental patients
A gentler approach to stain removal than traditional scale and polish treatments, Airflow tooth polishing is ideal for anyone who is anxious about visiting the dentist. It provides a positive experience and a high standard of preventative dental healthcare to minimise the likelihood of other dental interventions down the line.
Patients with sensitive teeth
Airflow is recommended by our dentists because it’s a gentle approach to polishing teeth. However, as pressure can also be adjusted and no instruments come into direct contact with the teeth, it’s also highly suitable for clients with sensitive teeth, minimising the chances of any discomfort.
Suitable for crowns, veneers, bridges or implants
As with sensitive teeth, Airflow tooth polishing is also suitable for anyone with crowns, veneers, bridges or implants due to the minimally invasive approach and adaptable pressure.
